Wrenching : ...“to maintain and make repairs on a bicycle”
(per Pedal Chic)
Wrench Like A Woman
I learned from my divorce that not much is more empowering than purchasing your first set of tools (and hopefully a power tool or two) and learning how to use them. What better way to help build confidence in our customers and friends than to create an entire year’s schedule for women to learn how to wield a bike wrench! You will learn in a few short sessions to overcome your intimidation of the lovely machine that is your bicycle.
Therefore, Ron (the Bike Whisperer) and I created a schedule as follows:
Date: Second Thursday of every month
Time: 6pm - 7pm
Location: Pedal Chic - 651 B South Main Street
January 12: How to Lube and Clean your Bicycle
February 9: Basic Maintenance: Brakes
March 8: Basic Maintenance: Derailleur
April 12: Tire Changing Clinic
May 10: Bar Taping
June 14: On The Road Repairs
July 12: True Wheels/Advanced
August 9: Installing a Chain
September 13: Tire Changing Clinic
October 11: Basic Maintenance: Headset
November 8: Home Tool Set
December 13: On the Road Repairs
Classes are only $5.00 to cover our basic costs. You will need to bring your own bike for the Tire Changing Clinic. Please remember to RSVP so we can set up properly for each event.
So - let’s get empowered in 2012 and learn how to take care of the basics for maintaining your bicycle and keeping safe on the road. After all, cell phones run out of power, sometimes we like to bike in solitary and the bike wasn’t cheap. Take care of your investment and your personal safety and come learn how to Wrench like a Woman!
And gentlemen, you are always welcome. Ron needs some company ever now and again!
