The Bikeville Community Inititiative is re-branding the City of Greenville, South Carolina because they love cycling and have the infrastructure to prove it!

It’s not every day you hear of a city with an initiative to rename itself “Bikeville.” Welcome to Greenville, South Carolina!

Over the past 20 years the city has undergone a complete transformation from the once dormant, abandoned downtown, to the thriving economic metropolis that it is today. In addition to being home to many nationally acclaimed chefs and international business headquarters, the city is bursting with thriving arts and culture experiences that are growing further still, thanks to an initiative to expand into the great outdoors.

Having dozens of bike trails, cycling is arguably the most popular sport in the region. One of the best-known trails, the Greenville Hospital System Swamp Rabbit Tram Trail, is a 13.55-mile (21.81-kilometer) bike trail that runs along the Reedy River and connects the City of Travelers Rest with the City of Greenville. Alongside the trail are booming bike-friendly retail stores and restaurants where riders can stop in for supplies or a bite, then hit the trail.

It is no wonder that the country’s first women-specific cycling shop opened in Greenville, since each May it is home to the USA Pro-Cycling Challenge. In fact, Pedal Chic remains the only women-specific cycling and athletic boutique in Southeastern United States. They offer an unparalleled selection of apparel and lifestyle/comfort wear for the female athlete, cyclist, urban commuter, and yogi, in an upscale boutique environment.

Greenville is becoming a hot spot for everyone from retirees to young business owners. Within close proximity to lakes and mountains, there is recreation for everyone, from zipline canopy tours to hiking to kayaking, less than 20 miles (32 kilometers) away.
